PITANGO Quartet is a group of young musicians presenting a rich repertoire of Argentinean Tango that travels from the times of the legendary Gardel to the famous Astor Piazzolla. Pitango plays energetic and passionate tango music with exciting fresh interpretations, as well as “Tango spirited” classical music and popular Israeli songs. The Quartet was founded at the beginning of 2003 by four Israeli classical musicians. The quartet holds a concert series in Tel Aviv’s “Felicia Blumenthal” music center, as well as performing regularly throughout Israel. In addition, Pitango also accompanies Milongas (Tango dances) in Jerusalem and Tel Aviv, and participates in festivals. The Quartet played a series of concerts with the Kibbutz Chamber Orchestra. In September 2003, Pitango toured in Spain, including a performance at the “Clamores” Theater in Madrid. In July 2004 Pitango held a concert tour in Argentina (Buenos aires, Corrientes, Santa Fe and Parana) and was rewarded by the "Mano Blanca Museum". The quartet participated an intensive tango course in the "Casa del Tango", Argentina. The Quartet members also trained with bandoneon masters Efrain Scheinfeld and Raul Jaurena. Pitango recorded two CDs that received very enthusiastic reviews and have been broadcasted on Radio stations in Israel, Spain (Radio Libertad, Radio Cibeles, Radio Intercontinental), USA (WQXR) and Argentina (Radio Splendid and Radio Ciudad). The quartet has appeared several times on Israeli television. Pitango is invited to perform in the international Tango Festival in Turkey (October 2004) and in Finland (September 2005).
